How To Apply

To apply to attend SSSW 2016, please follow these two steps before the 4th of April 11th of April 2016:

  1. Fill out the application form. This asks you basic information about you, your research and your interests, but most importantly, about your motivation to attend the summer school.
  2. Send a CV to application@sssw16.org

You will receive the results of the selection process in April.

The cost of the attending SSSW is 950€, including lectures and teaching sessions, accommodation (shared double room at the venue), meals (lunch and dinner), social events and excursion. A very limited number of grants (typically less than three) will be available for selected students who would otherwise not be able to attend the summer school. This means that we will only select a few students amongst the ones requesting a grant. We therefore advise that you do not request a grant (last part of the application form) if you do not absolutely need one to fund your participation to the summer school.

We welcome applicants from anywhere in the world. Some basic acquaintance with knowledge representation and Semantic Web technologies (RDF, OWL, etc.) is required and, in order to ensure a high ratio between tutors and students, the school will be limited to 60 participants.

Students should keep in mind that we will not consider applications from students or applicants who cannot commit themselves to a full participation for the whole duration of the school – i.e., it is a requirement for acceptance that applicants commit i) to arrive at the school on the 17th July, ii) to participate in all activities of the school during the week, and iii) to leave not earlier than 1pm on Saturday, 23rd July. Note also that most students will be required to share a room with one other student.

Apart from activities directly related to lectures, the summer school schedule is rightly famous for its unrivalled social programme, which enables informal interaction between all participants to the school i.e., students, tutors, invited speakers, school staff, etc. These events include a trip and a gala dinner in a beautiful Italian city, disco, and sport activities.
