SSSW 2016 – Thursday

BUONGIORNO BERTINORO!

Yesterday as usual started with a morning run, cappuccino and croissants.

The last days are always the heaviest and the most tiring, but nothing and no one can stop our runners!

The rest of day was special with a hackthon session and a tour of the beautiful Rimini.

During the morning Andrea, Valentina and Anna Lisa challenged the abilities of students with the SSSW 2016 HackthonThe students had to explore semantic scholarly datasets and build tools to provide enrichment, querying, and browsing over them.

For example, one of the tasks was fetching open reviews from the Semantic Web Journal dataset and extract their sentiment polarity based on their text content by exploiting SentiWordNet.

SSSW 2016 never lacks fun and surprise. During the hackathon Valentina, Mathieu, and some students have reenacted a SSSW version of the famous “O Captain! My captain” scene from the Dead Poets Society.

In the afternoon we went to visit Rimini, a very well deserved distraction from the week busy schedule. After a long walk in the historical center with our guides Sabrina and Alessandra, some of us decided to have a swim in the sea before dinner.

We had dinner in a restaurant on the beach where a beautiful moon and unexpected spectacular fireworks made the evening a magic experience.

And finally we celebrated Enrico Daga’s birthday with a treasure hunt – he had to deserve his gifts.
